A list
For a while now I’ve been compiling a list in my head of what I would like in a place that I will eventually settle down. I don’t know if this place exists, but I hope it does.
- near a fairly sizable town and semi-close to a larger city
- I’d prefer to live not right in the center of town, but close enough that I could bike there for groceries and stuff. I’d like to not have to drive anywhere except maybe to work. Also, close enough to other houses that my kids have other kids to play with without me having to drive them, but not so close that we have no privacy. A little land might be nice, maybe we could have chickens and/or a goat.
- I want an older house, built back when they made houses to last, 75-100 years ago. Those houses have character. I don’t mind if it needs some TLC, but I would love for it to have most of the original features, like the woodwork and built in shelving. It should have a front and back porch, a screened in back porch would be ideal for summer.
- There should be a large yard, at least partially fenced in with a high fence since my dog is crazy athletic and can jump a 5 foot high fence with ease. The yard should have some trees for shade and to hang my hammock, but also sunny spots so I can have a fruit and vegetable garden.
- I’d like to live near a river since I am pretty serious about getting into kayaking and it would be nice to not have to travel too far to get on the water.
- There should be good hiking nearby too.
This might be too tall an order, but if I can find it, I’ll never leave.
