I don't sleep at night... no biggie.

If we were to wake up some morning and find that everyone was the same race, creed and color, we would find some other cause for prejudice by noon. ~ George Aiken

Sad, but most likely true. People love to hate.

I'm Jess. I live in Charleston, WV. I am a nurse on a neurological floor. I mostly care for older people that have had strokes or have other problems with their noggins. Some seizures, head trauma and spinal surgery too. Lately it's also been the satellite psych ward. I work night shift, so it's even more fun since the real crazies come out at night.

Great Plans

I just finished reading ‘Between a Rock and a Hard Place’, the memoir of the guy that went hiking alone, got his hand stuck, and cut off part of his own arm back in 2003. I vaguely recall when this happened, it was national news.

In the book, Aron Ralston writes not only of his harrowing experience but of many of his other adventures. Last summer I think I rediscovered my love of the outdoors and reading this book has only fueled that even more. Since I began reading this memoir, I began mentally preparing a list of things that I want to do before 2011 comes to a close. Here is that list, though I’m sure I’ll be adding to it over time…

1. Go on a cross-country road trip. Maybe I’ll do a bit of research about things to see on the way, but mostly we’d just stop off at places if we saw things that interested us. (This is an at this time undetermined “us” since I don’t know who my traveling companion(s) will be, one of my friends said that their interested but she is a notorious flake and I have a hard time committing to any plans that involve her because I’m sure she’d ditch me at the last minute.)

2. Go camping.

3. Go on a several day hiking trip. In the book, he mentioned some extreme hiking where you just continuously hike for a couple days, no sleep. I, for some odd reason, think this sounds like fun. Or maybe I can combine the hiking with the camping and kill two birds with one stone.

4. Learn to kayak.

5. Get a new job, hopefully traveling nursing, and move away from this stupid town.

6. Go to an amusement park and ride some roller coasters. Maybe King’s Island, I haven’t been there in over 5 years. Or maybe it would be more fun to try an entirely new park.

7. Meet someone awesome and hopefully have some sort of relationship. It’s been a while since I’ve had an honest to goodness boyfriend. I think it would be a nice change of pace for me. Unfortunately, I think this one will have to wait until I accomplish #5, since the quality of men in the town I currently live in is less than desirable.

8. Get another tattoo… or three… or more.

That’ll do for now… I’ll add more later.
