Why I wouldn't make a good teacher...
Me: The clouds are really ominous today.
My friend: What does ominous mean?
Me: It's like... foreboding.
My friend: ????
Me: Haha. Sorry. I guess I should use smaller words to define bigger ones. Let me try again...

Eskimo man: Sure, by the stars... or GPS. *chuckles*
NoHo
So, it’s been a while, but big updates. I did it. I moved away from Charleston, WV. I’m doing traveling nursing, just like I wanted. Well, I hope I will be… having some licensing issues. Lots of things have gone wrong in the whole process, so I haven’t started work yet, but I am where I will be working. Los Angeles. I’m living in North Hollywood only 15 minutes from...

No different
I’m not sure why I got my hopes up. Why I thought this time would be different. This relationship. It wasn’t. I guess it’s not quite buried in the ground with tombstone erected, but it’s close. I know you can’t change people, I would like to, but I’m not going to even try because I’m sure it’s a lost cause. Damn it all. Is it so wrong that I want to...
One month
One month from today I will be 26. Knowing my luck as of late, I will probably spend it alone in this crappy town. I know, 26 isn’t really that old, but I feel like most of the people I know that are my age have their shit together much better than I do. Not to say that my life is a mess, but I don’t really see it going in the direction I am hoping it to in a timely fashion.
The guy...
Canceling
So, my contract with Verizon is finally up and I’ve decided to cut ties with them and hook up with another provider. Why? Primarily because it’s damned expensive. I decided to go on their website this evening and look into how I would go about canceling my service with them. And you know what? I couldn’t find anything. It’s hidden somewhere. Crafty bastards. I guess they...
Slacking
So, I’ve seriously been slacking with this whole posting thing, just as I expected I would. I’ve meant to post, really I have, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. Now I really have nothing to write about, but feel like I should since I’m motivated to finally do it.
I cannot believe it is already September, the year has flown by. I have been at my current job for 13...

Farting
For anyone that doesn’t think farting is funny at all, I suggest you hang around a baby. It is too funny when a baby just lets it rip and then smiles or giggles because they feel so much better. You can’t help but laugh yourself.
Help
I am a nurse, it is my job to help and care for people. I like to do it, it is a lot of the reason why I became a nurse. If the patient really and truly needs my help, I will bend over backwards to do so. More recently we have been getting a lot of asshole patients. Some of these patients that while they are technically sick, they are able bodied enough to do most things for themselves. Things...
Body
As a woman, or really just a person in general, I have a love/hate relationship with my body. I love some parts of it, I hate others; I love some of the things it can do and that it generally cooperates and allows me to get through my days with little difficulty, but I hate how it can betray me sometimes. So here are my opinions of my body, part by part. Why? Boredom and avoidance of less...

100!
I’ve made it to my 100th post. I think most of them were original rather than reblogs, which is pretty impressive, I think. Or perhaps not. I don’t know.
In celebration of this post I am going to do what I do best… bitch. Here goes…
I met this guy about a month ago. We met at a little music/arts festival through a mutual friend. We talked, flirted a bit, and genuinely got...
tumblrbot asked: WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET?
A list
For a while now I’ve been compiling a list in my head of what I would like in a place that I will eventually settle down. I don’t know if this place exists, but I hope it does.
- near a fairly sizable town and semi-close to a larger city
- I’d prefer to live not right in the center of town, but close enough that I could bike there for groceries and stuff. I’d like to not...
Those were the days
This morning I started watching John Carpenter’s ‘Vampires’. Some of the acting leaves something to be desired and we’ve done a lot to improve special effects in the last 10+ years, though they’re not terrible (I really enjoy the practical stuff when it comes to gory monster movies). Though, as with most older movies (this one is circa 1998), I always note gas prices....

Great Plans
I just finished reading ‘Between a Rock and a Hard Place’, the memoir of the guy that went hiking alone, got his hand stuck, and cut off part of his own arm back in 2003. I vaguely recall when this happened, it was national news.
In the book, Aron Ralston writes not only of his harrowing experience but of many of his other adventures. Last summer I think I rediscovered my love of the...

You have to be freaking kidding me. People suck. →
It’s when people pull shit like this that I really lose my faith in humanity. Food stamps are for people that NEED them, aka. do not have the money to pay for food. I’ll admit, that the program is abused by some people, and yes, I wish they weren’t allowed to use them to buy shitty junk food, but alas I do not have that kind of control. (How’s that for a run-on sentence?...

Followers
Welcome my 1 new follower… you bring my total to a seriously unimpressive 9. Since I’ve been posting slightly more regularly I’ve gained about 1 follower every 1-2 months. At this rate I’ll hit triple digits… never. Because the world is going to end next year… or because I’ll lose interest and stop posting. :P
Anyway, thanks to you fabulous 9 for taking...

Challenge
The last two shifts I worked we had two young women come in with stroke symptoms. The first night it was a 27 year old, she actually did have a stroke, confirmed by MRI. The second woman was my age, literally, her birthday is exactly two days before mine. It’s really kind of freaking me out.
Then yesterday I found this blog… http://mindpop.net/ It is written by a woman that had a...
This really fucking bugs me →
It seems that parents have been doing this for a while… and it really pisses me off. I’m sorry your kid has ears that stick out, but they’re freaking 7 years old, they don’t need plastic surgery. Who is to say that now that her ears are fixed she won’t be bullied or teased? She also has freckles, are you going to get her skin bleached so she doesn’t get teased...

Abbreviations and Acronyms
Ask anyone in the medical field, we love acronyms and abbreviations. If anyone outside of the field saw my report sheet (the paper I use when I learn about my patients and to keep track of all the thinks I have to do during my shift) it would pretty much look like gibberish. Particularly when I am writing the patient’s history, if I had to write out all of their illnesses long-hand I’d...

NGs and IVs
My shift last night was fairly busy to steady. I didn’t have much sit around time, but I wasn’t totally running my butt off the whole shift. I felt like I actually got to be a nurse a lot of the time instead of just being a pill pusher, butt wiper, and continuous charter. I swear hospitals think charting and documentation are the end-all be-all of our lives. If you actually have to do...
The list
As I mentioned in my last post I made a list of all the things my friend was doing that were bugging me. Here it is…
1. He is possibly the most annoying gum-chewer EVER! He chewed a lot of gum on our trip.
2. He is apparently unable to see or hear something without making a comment or some kind of sound.
3. He is so noisy. Always making some kind of sound… even thirty seconds of...
Back
Two weeks ago I got back from my week-long vacation in England and Ireland, specifically London and Dublin. I’ve been meaning to post about it, but I just haven’t been able to get into the mood to do so. I spent the first couple days back uploading pictures from my trip onto facebook (637 pictures, 4 albums) and then painstakingly captioning them (it was actually a bit of work because...

Bald Spot
As I’ve mentioned before, I work on a neuro unit, so we regularly get patients on our floor that have had brain surgery. When someone has brain surgery it’s usually on only one specific area, so prior to surgery they only clip/shave the hair on one spot… leaving a nice bald spot with a wound in the middle. Nothing too strange there, makes sense, right? The weird part is that when...

Tattoo 2
As I mentioned in my previous post, I’ve been thinking a lot about getting new tattoos. One of my new ideas is a branch on the left side of my back (on/above my shoulder blade) that will connect to a tree on my left arm that will be the main part of my future half-sleeve. Here’s my first draft.
I sketched it myself, so it’s not the greatest. It’s also backwards because I...
Tattoo
I currently have two tattoos and I have been wanting another one for a while. Recently I’ve been obsessing about getting a new tattoo. I have been thinking about old ideas I’ve had for tats, modifying them, and coming up with brand new ideas. In fact, I’ve had to start a little notebook to keep all my ideas in so I don’t forget them. Though I guess if I forget an idea, I...
Temperature
I’m sick. And with this kind of sick comes having a fever. With fevers come lack of temperature control. You’re cold, so you pile on your blankets and then fall asleep only to wake up sweating and overheated. Blankets come off and you’re comfortable… for a little while. Until you get cold again. Thus starts a vicious cycle. I already have a headache, body aches, a sore...

Dear Neurotic Nurse,
I’m sorry you are unhappy with your assignment this morning. Six patients? You poor thing. Only one nursing assistant? Get over it, we never have even one on night shift. Be thankful you have at least one. Bitching about your assignment throughout my entire report isn’t going to accomplish anything… except annoying the fuck out of me. If you think your assignment is too much or...

Barista
I’ve been working as a nurse for about 6 months. I enjoy it, but my social circle is rather limited. Most of my coworkers are older, married, and/or have kids. Pretty much the only other people I talk to are patients. Before becoming a nurse I was a barista in a cafe on campus at my college. I made several really good friends while working there and I really miss the free caffeine also.
In...
tumblrbot asked: WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?
Thank you
Two little words, but they really do make a difference to me. As a nurse it is my job to keep you comfortable (through medication or other means), take care of your basic needs, clean up your ass if needed, etc., but that does not mean you can order me to do any of those things. I enjoy caring for my patients and helping them in any way that I can, but I do not enjoy doing so when they treat me...

Laundry
It seems like everyone has a step in the laundering process that they despise. We were talking about it at work the other night. I don’t think anyone really minds putting the clothes in the washer or switching it to the dryer. The trouble seems to come after the clothes are clean. For me it is the folding. I don’t know what it is, it never takes that long, but I tend to put it off...

It’s funny how much certain media or literature you identify with when you go through heartbreak. You hear a song and think, “That’s exactly how I feel. Someone else has been this too.”
This past summer, that was me. Totally hung up on a relationship that never really got off the ground and identifying with all those whiny songs. But this old BNL song came on my iPod and...

Things I learned in ACLS
So for work I had to take ACLS, aka Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support… if your heart starts doing funky things (like not beating), I now know how to go about attempting to fix it. I’m certified and everything.
Here are a couple helpful tid bits from my instructors…
Every dead person gets Epi. (epinephrine… synthetic adrenaline)
They’re not dead until...
